SUBMITTING AN ARTICLE FOR NEXT YEAR’S 2009 EDITION

Unsolicited Articles

However, to submit an unsolicited article, please do so with the following in mind:
  1. Unsolicited submission cutoff date is April 30 (printed/distributed in October).
  2. If your article meets editorial criteria, we reserve the right to publish the article either in the current year's edition or in a future year's edition.
  3. Authors of unsolicited articles will not be contacted unless a) the Publisher’s editorial team feels the article meets editorial criteria and b) the article meets a need in the editorial schedule. The Publisher reserves the right to reject any article for any reason and will not return unsolicited material (make sure you keep a copy of your article).
  4. If you've not heard from us by October, please let us know if you publish the article with another publisher. After October, you're free to publish the article with another publisher without notifying us.

Submitting Your Article

Whether solicited or unsolicited, all authors are asked to adhere to the following guidelines when submitting an article:
  1. All Mission Maker Magazine authors need to sign and abide by either a “first rights” contract or a “reprint” contract, which is essentially a 1-time license for the Publisher to use your article. (All authors or their original publisher retain copyright ownership.) Contracts will not be sent until both the author and the Publisher believe a publishing agreement is forthcoming.
  2. We pay 15¢ per published word for original works and 5¢ per published word for reprints (from website articles, brochures, casual papers, other small or large publishers, etc.). As an option for either original works or reprints, we offer, in place of payment, 2-4 sentences of promotion at the end of the article for either your ministry or your product, including contact/purchasing information.
  3. If we publish your article, you agree to submit your photo (a hi-res head shot) and brief bio of no more than 35 words (and possibly other photos or artwork for article illustrations).
  4. Editorial Criteria
    • 750 to 1,500 words
    • Submitted via email as an MS Word document attached to your email
    • Use minimal formatting (use only ONE space bar or ONE tab at a time; flush left; bold your proposed headline and subheads; include italics, if part of the text)
    • Articles must communicate within the broad definition of Christian mission
    • The actual topic should be within one of these general categories: a) at-large professional, global missiology; b) training/preparation/equipping for mission ministry; or c) short-term mission.
  5. Submission Process
    • Please do not send a proposal
    • Simply send your COMPLETED article according to the Editorial Criteria above
    • DO NOT ATTACH ANYTHING ELSE — Please do not attach photos or any other items to your submission (we’ll request those later if needed)
